Mrs. Mary Parks Dead: Correctionville Woman Succumbs to Brief Illness in Daughter's Home in Remsen.

Remsen Bell-Enterprise, Unknown Date: Mrs. Mary Parks of Correctionville, who came to Remsen less than two weeks ago to make an extended stay in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ambrose Jerman, passed away here early on the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 26 after a brief illness. Her death was due to asthma, with other complications. Mrs. Parks was 70 years of age. She is survived by eight children. The body was taken to Danbury, Iowa for burial, the funeral being held Friday, Jan. 28.

Mrs. Parks was a sufferer from asthma for many years, although she was always able to attend to her personal duties, but a general breakdown she suffered recently is thought to have been the result of the shock and sorrow incident to the recent death of her daughter, Mrs. Oscar Wright, which occurred Jan. 10 at Correctionville. After attending the last rites, Mrs. Parks came to Remsen to spend the winter with her daughter, Mrs. Jermann, and shortly after her arrival here she became dangerously ill. She was relieved of her sufferings by death, which occurred at 7:30 o'clock Wednesday, the 26th.

Mrs. Parks was born in Fairfield county, Ohio, in 1851 and was married Feb. 20, 1869. In the fall of the same year, Mr. and Mrs. Parks came to Iowa, settling at Dexter, and the family later moved to Danbury, where the husband passed away in 1903[sic, 26 Feb 1904]. Mrs. Parks was a nurse by profession, and since the death of her husband she followed this work during a greater portion of the time, making Correctionville her home. She was well and very favorable [sic] known as a nurse thruout [sic] Northwest Iowa.

The deceased was the mother of fourteen children. Four of them died in infancy. One daughter, Mrs. Lottie Stamper, died in 1911 at the age of 31, and another, Mrs. Wright, died recently at the age of 26. The surviving children are: Wm. Parks, Portland, Ore.; Mrs. A. Jermann, Remsen; Mrs. B. Watson, Canova, S.D.; Mrs. A. J. Warn, Battle Creek; Arthur Parks, LeMars; Mrs. T.H. Leetch, Danbury; Mrs. Wm. Utesch and Mrs. Harry Cohrt, Correctionville. The body was taken to Danbury for burial, the funeral being held Friday, Jan. 28. Mr. and Mrs. Jermann and son Lyle accompanied the remains.

Mrs. Parks was a member of the Free Methodist church throughout her life, and was a staunch Christian woman. She made many friends wherever she chose to make her home, and especially did her kindly ways win her high esteem and respect in the practice of her profession as a nurse. The many friends of the family extend their sincerest sympathy in the time of this great bereavement.
