Pearl Vernon Kilpatrick was born 1873 in Contentnea, Lenoir County, NC, eldest of 4 known surviving children (all daughters) born to farmers, John Lewis Kilpatrick and his wife, Frances Holland Moseley. Her paternal grandparents were Lewis Kilpatrick and Martha "Patsy" Mewborn of Lenoir Co, NC, and she has long roots in Lenoir County through both sides of her family tree.

Pearl was 19 when she married 26-year old Herbert Lane Arnold, Sr. on June 8, 1893. The couple remained in Craven County most of their adult lives, where they raised 7 known children: James Paul (1894), Gracie Lillian (1898), Charles Sheldon (1900), Annie Lucille (1904), Herbert Lane, Jr. (1906), Edwin W. (1914), and Sallie Duguild (1917).

It appears likely the couple moved to Wake County, after 1920, when their son Herbert, Jr. married Doris Honeycutt of Auburn Twp, Wake Co.

Pearl was widowed at age 67 when her husband of 48 years died in 1941 at age 74. She remained a widow another 25 years, passing in 1966 at age 92. They are both buried here, along with other family members.

Of her children, it is known Herbert Lane Arnold Jr, remained in the Auburn-Garner, Wake County area, where he married, had children and died. He and his wife are buried here. Pearl's son, Charles Arnold (1900-1964), is also buried here. Daughter Sallie married Unknown Stainback and was last known to be living in Berwyn, PA.
