Born March 23, 1917, in Vance County, N.C., to the late Pearl and Herbert Arnold, she was the youngest of seven children.
Mrs. Stainback was the wife of the late Dr. William C. Stainback, with whom she shared almost 60 years of marriage.
Sallie spent many of her early years attending both Peace and Meredith colleges in Raleigh, N.C. She was an active member of Wayne Methodist Church for many years.
Sallie was devoted to her family and had a great love for children and was a longtime supporter of organizations supporting the prevention of cruelty to animals and preservation of wildlife.
Mrs. Stainback is survived by her four children, Bonnie (husband John) Epling of Philomont, Va., William C. III
(wife Maria) of Mill Valley, Calif., JoAnne (husband Thomas) Fillippo of Malvern and David Arnold Stainback of Bethesda, Md. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to share in Sallie's Life Celebration Service at 11 a.m. Monday, June 4, at the Mauger-Givnish Funeral Home, 24 Monument Ave, Malvern.
A receiving time will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Philadelphia Memorial Park.
