Hans Behrmann (1892 - 1965)
Hans Behrmann, 72, veteran Schleswig business man died at his home early Monday morning, April 12 (1965) after suffering from a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning from the United Church of Christ. Mrs Ernie Grell and Mrs Don Meyer sang, "Abide with Me," and "What a Friend We Have In Jesus." They were accompanied by Mrs John H. Evers on the organ. Rev. R. J. Ratzlaff officiated.

Mr Behrmann was born in Hamburg, Stellingen, Germany on September 26, 1892. He came to the United States in 1910. He was employed by August Rickert in the general merchandise store for two years and then went to Manning where he worked in the Martens Merchandise company. Returning to Schleswig in 1915, he again went to work for Mr Rickert. He also worked for Peter C. Hollander in the clothing store. In February of 1919 with his father-in-law, Honas Lorenzen, they purchased the merchandise business from August Rickert and renamed it Behrmann and Company.

In 1959 on the 40th anniversary of Behrmann and Co., Hans sold the store to his son, Byron who had been associated with him for several years.

He married Emma Lorenzen on May 8, 1917. they have two children, Lois, Mrs Lorenz Ipsen of Des Moines and Byron. A nephew, Bill Meyerink made his home with them afer the death of his mother, until he went into the service in World War II. Besides his widow and two children he is survived by a brother, Arthur in Germany.

During his forty years in business in Schleswig he served on [?]ll civic organizations, the community club, volunteer fire department and council. He was a member of the United Church of Christ.

Burial was made in the Morgan cemetery. The pallbearers were: George Schiernbeck, Leonard Hollander, Arthur Hollander, Charles Evers, Robert B. Lyon and John H. Evers. Honorary pallbearers were: A. G. Schultz, G. P. Hollander, J. A. Rohwer, H. F. Peters, L. D. Johns and Johannes Gosch.
