Emma (Lorenzen) Behrmann (1896 - 1983 )
Emma Christine Brigette Behrmann was born on Dec. 6, 1896 near Schleswig, Iowa, the daughter of Johannes and Louise Hansen Lorenzen. She died July 4, 1983 at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, at the age of 86.

Emma was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in the Christian faith. She spent her early years on a farm near the Schleswig community. Emma received her formal education in the rural schools near her home.

On May 8, 1917, Emma was united in marriage to Hans Behrmann in Schleswig. Together they made their home in Schleswig where Mr. Behrmann was employed. They were blessed with two children and later a nephew William Meyerink who came to make his home with the family. Later Mr. Behrmann purchased a grocery and dry goods store in Schleswig. For many years, Emma was active in the store and the Schleswig business community. After her husbands death 1965, Emma remained in the store until her retirement at the age of 82.

In addition to her husband and her parents, Emma was preceded in death by two sisters, Rose and Theresa and one brother in infancy.

Survivors include, one son Byron Behrmann of Schleswig, one daughter, Lois, Mrs. Lorenz Ipsen of Des Moines, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one great great grandson and three step great grandchildren.

Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on July 7, at 10:30 A.M. at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. The Rev. Fred Moore of the United Church of Christ officiated at the services. Hymns for the services include, In The Garden and Take My Hand Precious Lord. Pallbearers included, Doug Lyon, Larry Grill, Roger Wonder, Alan Sedore, Ron Clausen and Don Thompson. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.
