Mary Arnold was born 24 Sep 1836 in Fovant, Wiltshire, England to James and Mary Corp Arnold. Her father died 14 Dec 1849 in Wiltshire, England. Her mother then married Stephen Sumner on 24 Feb 1851. Mary came to USA in 1852 with her mother and stepfather and sister Elizabeth. They first lived in Ohio, then Illinois and then to Minnesota before 1857 when they are found on the Wabasha Co., MN Census. Mary Arnold married George Coite Everett on 26 Sep 1858. He died in a wagon accident when a load of lumber pinned him against a fence. She managed the Old Boston House in Lake City before the war between the states.
This couple had 9 children: Elizabeth Louisa, Mary Helen, George Henry, Anna May, Francis Silvia, Lucy Floretta, Alice Amelia, Sadalia Coite and Laura Agatha. Mary's husband George died on 28 Feb 1874 in an wagon accident, when a load of timbers broke loose and he was trapped between the timbers and the fence.

Mary Arnold Everett died 10 Feb 1929. Funeral services were held at South Troy Church with Mr. Gould and Mr. Reeve officiating. She was buried in Dale Pleasant Prairie Cemetery along side her husband.

Grandmother Feted by Grandchildren on 89th Anniversary, Woman Who Settled Here in Days of Ox Cart, Still Active

In honor of her eighty-ninth birthday, Mrs. Mary Everett who lives 15 miles north of Rochester was surprised by 40 children, grandchildren and great grandchildren Saturday evening at her home. Mrs. Everett is one of the old settlers in the vicinity. She was born in England in 1852 and came with her family to New York state. After her marriage she came with her husband to Minnesota and made part of the journey in ox cart to Farm Hill, MN where they settled north of Rochester. Mrs. Everett's husband, George, served in the War Between the States as a corporal in Co G 8 Minnesota from 30 Oct 1862 until 11 Jul 1865. She was left after his
death with nine children: eight girls and one boy. She is also the grandmother of Mrs. Leo Huey.
Among the guests at the party were Professor and Mrs. Clyde Anderson of Becker, Minn, Mrs. Lucy Robinson and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Robinson and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Schacht and family, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Webster and family, all of Hammond; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Dieter and son, Mr. and Mrs. George Everett and Mr. and Mrs. Leo Huey of Rochester. Mrs. Everett has lived on the farm alone with her youngest daughter
for 35 years. She is in good health and helps with the house work.
