Ocie Spence Altizer, 95, of Christiansburg, Va., passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side, Monday, February 2, 2009. She was born in Montgomery County on July 14, 1913, to the late Judge (J.H.) and Lucinda Ellen Moles Spence. The last of 11 brothers and sisters, she was also preceded in death by: her husband, Shirley M. Altizer; a son, Donald Lee Altizer; and a grandson, Clint Shelton. She was a longtime member of Cambria Baptist Church and very active in the Women's Mission Union. She was a loving mother and grandmother to, children: Janet A. Shelton and husband, Cecil, of Snowville, Va., Sandra A. White and husband, Bob, of Dobson, N.C., and Bonnie A. Lucas and husband, David, of Salem, Va.; grandchildren, Karen Cox and husband, Jerry, Patty Phillips and husband, Chipper, Jason White and wife, Kim, Sara McMillen and husband, Josh, Jonathan Lucas and Grayson Lucas; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Cambria Baptist Church, Missionary Fund. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, February 5, 2009, at Cambria Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Tom Harvey officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at the Horne Funeral Home. The Altizer Family is in the care of Horne Funeral Service.
