Mr. Lawrence Edward Spence, 98, husband of the late Anna Scott Spence of Spring Dr., entered into rest Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2008 in the Rowland Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Jackson officiating. Interment will be at Pineview Memorial Park. A native of Virginia, Mr. Spence had made Belvedere his home since 1952. He was a retired piping superintendent with the E.I. DuPont Co., having worked in Iowa, Texas, Washington, Oklahoma, Tennessee, South Carolina and ten other sites during his thirty-seven year career. He was a 32nd degree mason and long time supporter of the Shriner’s Burn Centers. Mr. Spence was an avid boater, fisherman and golfer who loved spending time at his cottage on Lake Marion. Survivors include two sons,a brother, a sister, five grandchildren,and twelve great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Stephen Spence. Pallbearers will be Larry Spence, Leon Spence, Jason Spence, Wayne Spence II, Kyle Spence and Bobby Butterworth. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Denny, Mickey Yelton, Dennis Zachow and Steve Purvis. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6:00 until 8:00.Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942
