Glenna Rose Smith Thompson, 83, of Chattanooga, went home to be with her Lord, husband and son on her birthday, Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009.

Born on Jan. 22, 1926, in Athens, she was a longtime resident of Chattanooga. She was a devoted longtime member of both Ridgeview Baptist Church and currently Brainerd Hills Baptist Church, and had served as organist at both churches for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Sidney Earl Thompson Jr.; and one son, Sid "Tommy" Thompson III.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Pat McCallie of Chattanooga; two grandchildren, Chris Thompson and Jennifer McCallie; one great-grandson, Brody Helton; two brothers, Carlise Smith of Huntsville, Ala., and Don Smith of Lancaster, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Mason and the Rev. Fate Thomas officiating. She will be laid to rest with her husband in the National Cemetery following the service.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
