Sidney Earl Thompson Jr., 84, of Chattanooga, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, in a local health care center.

A native of Sweetwater, Tn., Mr. Thompson was a longtime resident of Chattanooga. A graduate of Auburn University, Mr. Thompson served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He was a retired pharmacist having owned and operated Sid’s Pharmacy in East Chattanooga for many years after which he worked for Access Pharmacy for 20 years before his retirement from Eckerd Drugs.

He was a longtime member and deacon of both Ridgeview Baptist Church and presently Brainerd Hills Baptist Church. He was an avid sportsman enjoying football, softball, hunting and golf.

He was preceded in death by his son, Sidney Earl "Tommy" Thompson III.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Glenna Rose Thompson; daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Pat McCallie, Chattanooga; brothers, Louis Thompson, Sweetwater, Tn., and Jack Thompson, Lenoir City, Tn.; grandchildren, Chris Thompson and Jennifer McCallie; great-grandson, Brody Helton, all of Chattanooga.
