He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 45 years, Velma Wilson; his daughter, Patti; a brother, Sam Wilson; a sister, Maxine; and Lois Nelson Wilson.
Jr. graduated Houston High School in 1947. In August 1949, he married Velma Louise Baker and to this union two children were born, Patti Louise and John Michael.
He served in the United States Army from 1951 until 1953, serving in the Korean War. Jr. spent 29 1/2 years working in civil service at Fort Leonard Wood as a firefighter.
Jr. was the Regional Training Coordinator & Associate Instructor of Fire & Rescue Training for 20 years at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He also played a significant role in helping to develop and teach Farm Rescue, School Bus Rescue, Building Collapse and Auto Rescue. He also did presentations at FDIC. Jr. was a volunteer fire fighter for Houston, Mo., for 25 years. He was also a member of the American Legion and a member of the Masonic Order of A.F. & A.M. for over 40 years.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of Houston, Mo.
Surviving are his son, John Michael and wife, Tina, of Houston, Mo.; two grandsons, John Newton Wilson of Houston, Mo., and Nathanael Michael Wilson of Blue Springs, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, John James Wilson of Summersville, Mo.; and Lexi Wilson of Springfield, Mo.; a brother, Bruce and wife, Imogene Wilson, of Houston, Mo.; a brother-in-law, Charles Baker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Hospice of Care had been helping with his care at his home since April 9, 2008.
Jr. was a very giving and special Husband, Father and Grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at Houston First Christian Church with Dr. Terry Snelling officiating. Burial was in Pine Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
