Gordon was born May 18, 1926 in Sioux City, the son of Don and Cledah (Wright) Darling. He served his country during WWII in the United States Army. Gordon later married Sally Dykstra on August 30, 1947 at the Presbyterian Church in Alton, Iowa. To this union two sons were born, Chip and Eric.
Gordon earned his law degree from Drake University in 1950 and shortly thereafter moved to Winterset, where he practiced law continually until his retirement.
He was a member of the American Legion, First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset, Madison County Bar Association, Iowa State Bar Association, Iowa Trial Lawyers Association, American Bar Association, of which he served as a committee chairperson, as well as being a member of the Iowa Junior Bar Association, of which he served as President.
Gordon is survived by his spouse, Sally Darling of Winterset, two sons, Gordon 'Chip' Darling, Jr. and wife, Deb of Winterset, Eric Darling and wife, Ellie of Wauwatosa, WI and five grandchildren, Trevor, Lindsay, Nathan, Will, and Kate. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara Crossley.
