In 1910 she and her parents and four siblings lived in a house they were renting in Ward 1 in Michigan City, IN. Her father worked as a superintendent for the electric light company.

In 1930 she and her husband and their two children lived in a house they were renting for $45 a month at 4817 Morningside Avenue in Sioux City, IA. They did have a radio. He worked as a building contractor. Also rooming with them was 18-year-old Eunice Thompson.

In 1940 she and Don and their two children lived in a house they were renting at 1115 36th Street in Des Moines, IA. He worked as an office manager for a private business, with an income in 1939 of $4205 for 51 weeks of work.
