Paul Datus Akins, Sr.

Paul Datus Akins, Sr, age 75, died early Wednesday morning at Bulloch Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. The native of Bulloch County had lived in Statesboro most of his life, and had been an insurance agent for the past fifty years. At the time of his death, he was owner and operator of the Akins Insurance service. He was a charter member of the Forest Heights Country Club.

Mr. Akins is survived by his wife, Mrs. Paul Datus Akins, Sr. of Statesboro; four sons, Paul Datus Akins, Jr., Bill Akins and John Akins, all of Statesboro and David Akins of Sylvania; three sisters, Mrs. Clyde Cannon, Mrs. Irene Edenfield and Mrs. Wilman Mallard, all of Statesboro; three brothers, J. Doy Akins, Inman Akins and Ernest W. Akins, all of Statesboro, and five grandchildren.

The Funeral service for Mr. Akins will be held Friday morning at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Smith-Tillman Mortuary of Statesboro with the Rev. Don Patterson, the Rev. Bill Griffith and Elder W.H. Durrence conducting the service. Burial will be in the Upper Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

The body will remain in the chapel of the Smith-Tillman Mortuary until the funeral hour.

Smith-Tillman Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
