Adelaide was born January 9, 1861 in Branch Co., MI to Simeon G. and Lettisa A. Kellam Butts. When she was five years old, her father was brutally killed by the Nightrider Gang in Winn Parish, LA. Adelaide married William Cooper Blass on September 29, 1877 in Branch Co., MI. They moved to Elkhart, IN briefly. They were the parents of Lulu (married Herbert Lamphere), Lewis (March, 1880 - Oct. 14, 1880) and Estella M. Blass.

After daughter Lulu died in 1904 in Elkhart, Adelaide and William moved to St. Louis, MO to live with daughter Estella and her husband Walter J. Diehl, where they passed away. William died there February 5, 1922 and Adelaide died April 22, 1930. Both were buried in Fairhope, AL.
