Rolland E. Bechtell, 79, Battle Lake, died Monday, April 15, 2002 in Perham (Minn.) Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Bechtell was born July 13, 1922, near Bertha, Minn. On Feb. 21, 1943, he married Dolores Paulson. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944-46, serving in Italy during World War II. She preceded him in death. He married Darlene Mauer in 1963. She also preceded him in death. He farmed in the Red River Valley and later worked near Carlyle, Ill., until he retired. He moved to Otter Tail Lake in Minnesota in 1990.

He is survived by five daughters, LaVonne (Robert) Sarnes, Princeville, Ill., Linda (Mark) Rhodes, Gridley, Ill., Michelle Bechtell, Battle Lake, Minn., Bonita (Henry) Hollenkamp, Carlyle, Nancy (Sam) Stoecklin, Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo.; two sisters, Dorothy (Jack) Davis, Francis, Minn., Violet (Herman) Gilgenbach, St. Paul; 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
