Kathryn V. Bowman, 77, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, June 16, at Central United Methodist Church, with Rev. Steve Waldorf and Rev. B. J. Funk, officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9, Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Bowman was born December 21, 1928, in Irwin County, Georgia to the late Troy Moses and Mamie Matilda McDaniel Vaughn. She lived in Ben Hill and Irwin Counties all of her life. Mrs. Bowman was a 1945 graduate of Irwin County High School and received her nursing training from the Ben Hill County Hospital. Her nursing career began at the Medical Arts Building where she worked for Dr. Roy Johnson and Dr. John Ed Smith. She retired as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Dorminy Medical Center and Life Care Center, both in Fitzgerald. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Fitzgerald, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Upper Room Sunday School Class. She was also a volunteer with the Christian Kitchen.
Mrs. Bowman is survived by; 2 daughters and son-in-law, Nancy and Kenny Bass of Fitzgerald and Kathy B. Garland of Douglas; a grandchild, Brittney and Kurt Sanford and 2 great grandchildren, Kaylea Bass and Kayne Sanford; 3 sisters, Mildred Hobby of Fitzgerald and Lucille Brooks and Ann Franczek both of Jacksonville, FL.; and a brother, Troy Vaughn of Fitzgerald. She was preceded in death by a sister, 5 brothers and a son-in-law, Wayne Garland.
