Mildred Vaughn Hobby, 92, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, November 26, 2018, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Friday, November 30, 2018, at Central United Methodist Church, in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Dr. Richard Wright and the Rev. B.J. Funk officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday morning from 10 AM until 11 AM, in the sanctuary of the church.

Ms. Hobby was born June 28, 1926, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Troy Moses & Mamie Matilda McDaniel Vaughn. She was a 1944 graduate of Ocilla High School and in 1953 she received her License as a Practical Nurse. She received her nurse’s training from Ben Hill County Hospital and was employed as a nurse for Ben Hill County Hospital and Dorminy Medical Center for almost 40 years. She enjoyed going to the Senior Center and playing BINGO and watching the Atlanta Braves. She was a wonderful cook and shared delicious meals with friends and neighbors. Her favorite hobby was The Hobby’s and spending time with them in all their activities. Ms. Hobby was an active member of Central United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Golden Believers Sunday School Class, UMW Circle #7, leader of the Golden Agers and Church Hostess from 1991 until 2007.

She is survived by her son and his wife, David & Judy Hobby of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Traci & Jeff Dolbeer of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, Dan Hobby of Tifton, Drew Hobby of Jacksonville, Florida, Cassi & Drew Culpepper of Brunswick and Mike Hobby of Fitzgerald; five great-grandchildren: Brant Culpepper, Bryce Culpepper, Bowen Culpepper, Harper Dolbeer and one on the way; and a brother, Troy Vaughn & Dot of Fitzgerald. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters: Rosa Wright, Annie Franczek, Kathryn Bowman and Lucille Brooks and five brothers: Linton Vaughn, A.J. Vaughn, Odis Vaughn, Edwin Vaughn and James Vaughn.
