Alvin D. Petersen was born June 30, 1914, at Ruskin, Neb. He was one of a family of 10 children of Peter and Anna Petersen.
Mr. Petersen entered Bryan Memorial Hospital at Lincoln for open heart surgery on Oct. 30, and died Nov. 5, 1968, at the age of 54 years, 4 months and 5 days.
He was graduated from Ruskin High School in 1932. While attending high school, he was employed at a Ruskin service station and continued at this job until 1935 when he began his own oil business, in which he was actively engaged for the rest of his life.
In 1938 he was united in marriage to Leona Larsen at Ruskin. To this union two children were born, Berwyn and Jeanelle.
He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church at Ruskin, served on the church council, was a Sunday School teacher and active in the work of the congregation throughout his adult life.
He was a charter member of the Ruskin Lions Club and was active in all Ruskin community affairs.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
Surviving are his wife, Leona; son, Berwyn, of Ruskin, daughter, Mrs. Gary Brinegar (Jeanelle) of Carleton; five grandchildren, Dee Ann, Ken and LaRee Petersen and Lynne and Kristine Brinegar; three sisters, Elsie Petersen and Mary Nelson of Superior and Mabel Andreasen of Webber, Kan.; one brother, Walter of Denver.
The funeral service was held at the Bethany Lutheran Church at Ruskin Friday, Nov. 8, with Rev. Edward Hiller officiating, and interment was in Spring Creek Cemetery.
