George Barrick died of paralysis Sunday morning about 8 o'clock , at the residence of his son William O. Barrick, in East Newport. Friday afternoon about 2 o'clock he fell over unconscious on the sidewalk at Eby's drug store corner, and when he was picked up it was found that his entire right side had been paralyzed. He was at once conveyed by William Wertz to hsi home in Ease Newport, the residence of is son, William, where he lingered without regaining consciousness until his death. He was born August 18, 1811, on the Barrick homestead in Juniata township, west of Markelville, now owned by George A. Leggit. He was twice married. His first wife was Miss Annie Raffensperger, who died in the spring of 1864. His second wife, was the widow of William Reed, and her nadien name was Elizabeth McNaughton. She is also dead. He leaves three sons; John M. and William O. of East Newport, and George F. of Cove, and one daughter, Mahala, widow of George W. FRee deceased, late of Harrisburg. One son and three daughters are dead. Jacob Barrick, a brother, who was 100 years old last March, resides in Illinois. He succeeded as a young man to the ownership of the Barrick Homestead, which he after some time sold and then removed to a farm in Center township, near Ferguson. He rented the Aker farm near Newport, in 1860, remaining there ne year. He then bought the farm south of Newport, now owned by Gabriel Heister, of Harrisburg. He afterward resided on North Front street, this place (Newport) with his daughter. Mrs. Free who was then the unmarried widow of Stephen Williams who died in the rebel prison at Loudon Ga. his borhter in-law , John M. Barrick, also a prisoner of war, standing by the young man's side as his life went out. Having married Mrs. Reed he bought her farm on which he worked two years and then sold it to James B. Black. He next bought the William Harper farm in Miller township which after a few years he traded with David Thompson for four lots and a house in East Newport. He owned two of these lots and the house at the time of his death. Since the death of his second wife he has made his home with his son, John M. in winter and his son William O. in summer. He was kindhearted courteous old man for whose memory nothing but sentiments of the highest regard are entertained by all who know him. The funeral was held at the home of his son, William O. Barrick, on Tuesday moring at 10 o'clock, Rev. G.M. Diffenderfer officiating, Interment was in Newport Cemetery
