John Myneer Barrick was born in Perry County, the son of George B. & Mary Ann (Raffensberger) Barrick. In 1860, he was a farmer living in Oliver Township, Perry County, and stood 5' 4" tall and had dark hair and hazel eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service in Philadelphia February 9, 1864, as a private with Battery G, 3rd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery (152nd Pa), and honorably discharged with his company June 26, 1865.
He married Catherine Wertz in 1867 and fathered Dennis L. (b. 04/14/70), William Harvey (b. 11/02/73), Samuel Wesley (b. 12/20/74), and Charles Melvin (b. 01/21/79).
