Memorial services for Dr. Frank N. Edens, age 90, of Ruston, Louisiana will be held 2 p.m. Thursday Sept. 20, 2007 in the Burkhalter Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston. Officiating the services will be Rev. Andy Hurst and Dr. Pat Garrett under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.

Dr. Edens was born to Mr. Albert and Fannie Edens in Grapeland, Texas on Aug. 17, 1917 and passed away Sept. 15, 2007 in Ruston.

Frank and his wife Alvora moved to Ruston in 1965 where he taught business at Louisiana Tech University until his retirement in 1986. He taught both undergraduate and graduate classes and enjoyed his work and students immensely. Many of his former students stayed in touch with him after retirement. Frank had a zest for life which included genealogy, hospice care, grief support, church activities, reading, and other activities. During retirement Frank and Ms. Gordon were instrumental in establishing one of the first hospice programs in Ruston. Together they touched many lives and enjoyed hospice with a passion. Frank also was very active in Wounded Healers Group for many years. He is preceded in death by parents, Albert and Fannie Edens; wife, Alvora Edens; brother, Jim Edens; and sister, Emma Charm Little.

He is survived by daughter, Sharon Martin and husband Larry; sister, Merle Isaac and husband Ralph; granddaughter, Carol Fletcher and husband Ronnie; great granddaughter, Chloe Fletcher; grandson, Alan D. Martin and wife Holly, great granddaughter, Elizabeth Martin and several other relatives and close friends.

The family extends a special thanks to the wonderful and compassionate caregivers and Hospice of Caring Hearts nurses who provided comfort during his illness.

Memorials may be made to the Methodist Children's Home, 103 E. Vaughn Ave. Ruston, LA 71270 and Hospice of Caring Hearts, 463 Pea Ridge Rd. Dubach, LA 71235.
