James5 Bancroft (John4, John3, John2, Thomas1), tithingman (1757), warden (1774), clerk of the parish (1779-1780), born in that part of Lynn, now Lynnfield, Essex, Massachusetts. He was the son of John and Ruth (Newhall) Bancroft.
He married at Reading, Middlesex, Massachusetts 25 November 1755, Esther Smith.
James Bancroft lived in the old Bancroft house at Lynnfield Center, and both he and his wife are buried in the old cemetery there. On his grave is a marker of the Society of Sons of the American Revolution.
