City Pioneer Succumbs At Age of 90
BY MARGARET O'MEARA
Late Friday afternoon death came to Mrs. Honora Ryan in Porter Memorial hospital after an illness of 15 weeks, the result of a fall in her home.
Mrs. Ryan, daughter of Thomas and Catherine Delhanty {Delhunty}, was born in Valparaiso, September 17, 1834 {1855}. Sunday she would have been 90 years of age.
The deceased was married in 1865 {1875} in St. Paul's Catholic church to Martin Ryan, also of Valparaiso.
She was the mother of four children, two of whom survive, Edward and Catherine Ryan. Two children preceded her in death, William and Thomas. Mr. Ryan died in 1888.
Throughout years of industrious life Mrs. Ryan was known as a good neighbor, a good samaritan, a good citizen. Her sympathy, understanding and help were always given to those who needed her kind offices. To many her life was a heroic example of all that is fine in womanhood.
A life-time member of St. Paul's Catholic church, she was devout in her observance of its teachings.
Memorial services will be held Monday morning, with requiem high mass at 9 o'clock in St. Paul's church. Burial will be in St. Paul's cemetery.
The body is at the Stinchfield funeral parlors where friends may call up until time of services. The rosary will be recited Sunday night at 8 o'clock.
