Former Funeral Home Owner Dies In Jonesboro

Rommie W. Bryan, Sr., former owner of Southern Funeral Home, Inc., of Jonesboro and Winnfield, died on his 86th birthday, Wednesday, March 31, 1971 at the Hodge Clinic following a long illness. He was a native of Union Parish.

Bryan and his late wife, the former Janie Spurlock, purchased Southern Funeral Home in the early 1940s. He continued to have an active interest in the business until 1959.

He was deacon in the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro for many years and was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 380, F. & A. M. and the Order of the Eastern Star.

He is survived by one son, Rommie W. Bryan, Jr. of Dallas, Tex.; three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Bryan Price of Winnfield, Mrs. Lucille Boyd and Mrs. Farrah Holder, both of Jonesboro; three brothers, Leslie Bryan of Ruston, T. N. Bryan and O. B. Bryan, both of Downsville; one sister, Mrs. Sadie Reeves of Marion; 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro with Rev. John Alley officiating, assisted by Rev. James McNair.

Burial was in the Gayla Traina Memorial Cemetery in Jonesboro under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
