Daniel Hardy was the son of April David and Mary A.L. "Effie" [Griffin] Averitt. He married (1) Ann LNU and they had one daughter, Mary Emma. After Ann died, he married (2) Frances Charlotte Simmons, daughter of Jasper and Louamie "Clements" Simmons, about 1882. They were the parents of 14 children, including several who died in infancy. Daniel Hardy died from pneumonia or flu or both.
