Wife of Rev. Dr. Tillman Dixon Peurifoy. She and her husband had been sent from South Carolina as missionaries to the Florida Indians. While he was away at a meeting their log home was attacked by Indians. The two small children were murdered and the mother was stabbed numerous times and scalped. The house was set on fire. As the Indians were leaving she was able to crawl out the back of the house and hide in a nearby swamp. She was found the next day by her father, Daniel Byrd.
She and Tillman went on to have many other children.
