OBIT:

HOLLIS, BESSIE MATILDA

Death of an estimable lady.

Mrs. Gilbert Hollis passes away at her home near Fallen Timber.

Mrs. Bessie Hollis, wife of Gilbert Hollis, and one of White Township's most highly esteemed and beloved residents, died at her home near Frugality on Thursday morning, February 7th, 1918, aged 32 years, 3 months and 1 day. Mrs. Hollis leaves to mourn their loss a kind husband, Gilbert Hollis, and two small children. Also her mother Mrs. Samuel Beers, three brothers F. H. and Dewey Beers of Fallentimber, Joseph Beers of Denver Colo. and one sister Clara Frye of Johnstown. Mrs. Hollis congenial, mild and gentle disposition won her life-long friends. She was companionable and always ready to listen and advise. She is one that the loss to the community can never be filled and doubtless will never be forgotten. She was a practical Christian and lived the life her religion taught her having united with the Fiske U. B. Church in her early life. Funeral services were held at the Fiske U.B. Church on Sunday morning by the Rev. McHenry. Through the time the services were conducted, a solemn hush pervaded the house broken only by the silent weeping of loved ones and the voices of the clergy, who voiced the sorrow of the community. The remains were followed to Pleasant Hill Cemetery by a large group of friends.
