Mr. C.W. "Al" Allison, 84, passed away Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Teague. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at Bowers Funeral Home. Interment will follow the services at Union Cemetery near Freestone. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday with the family present at the funeral home.
Caluph W. was born and raised in Freestone and attended the Freestone School. Al served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart for being wounded in combat. He married Billie on July 27, 1946. C.W. worked for many years as a butcher for Safeway and was also a horse and mule trader. One of his proudest accomplishments was being one of only ten people to ride the 3,363 mile wagon trail ride, taking six months around the State of Texas, in 1986 as part of the Texas Sesquicentennial Celebration. Al was famous for his team of mules and his wagons and often volunteered his time giving wagon rides for numerous community organizations. When not driving his muleteam, Al was a steadfast Ford driver. He was a very loving and caring person and his family was everything to him. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Al is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Billie Allison, of Teague; sons, Allen Allison, of Teague, Dale Allison and wife, Donna, and Cal "Bimbo" Allison and wife, LaJean, all of Freestone; daughters, Vikkie Williams and husband, Dwain "Slokum," of Freestone, and Dawn Wetterman and husband, James, of Teague; 20 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters, Callie Ferguson, of Waco, and Lois Roberts, of Irving; a special nephew, Albert Lee Allison, of Teague; numerous other nephews and nieces, other relatives and many friends.
