HAZEL IRENE BOWEN
Hazel Irene Bowen, 85 of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on Friday, Aug. 6, 1999 at Sunnycrest Manor in Dubuque, Iowa.
Born on Sept. 7, 1913 in La Plata, Missouri, she was the daughter of Edgar R. and Ada (Newton) Francis.
Survivors include one daughter and her husband, Lois I. and John Phelps of Dubuque, Iowa; one son and his wife, Burl and Ethel Bowen of Clark, Missouri; twelve grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Erby and Mary Francis of La Plata, Missouri, and Oral Francis of Kirksville, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Randy J. Phelps; and a step-grandson, Steven Ebert.
Hazel was formerly employed by the Sisters of Mercy in housekeeping, the Dubuque Golf & Country Club in the kitchen, the Our Lady of Lourdes and by the Lorenz Laundry.
She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and being outdoors.
Chapel services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999 at the La Plata Christian Church in La Plata, Missouri. Burial will be in the New Harmony Cemetery, east of La Plata, Missouri, under direction of the Behr's Funeral Home of Dubuque, Iowa.
