Calvin Perciville Adams, the son of Matthew and Jane Adams, was born in Boone County, Kentucky on June 12, 1815. The Adams family moved to McLean County, Illinois in 1834 where Calvin was a farmer.

He married his first wife Jemima Royston Patton on December 24, 1839. Calvin and Jemima had a daughter Almeda, born in 1845. Jemima died in 1848 and there is an illegible stone at the Adams Cemetery that is thought to be hers.

Calvin married again on April 17, 1849 to Emerine Cunningham. They had one son Robert Chester Adams on February 16, 1850. Calvin died of consumption just three months after Robert was born. Almeda and Robert were raised by Emerine and her second husband, David Carey.
