Professional Football Player. For twelve seasons (1954, 1957 to 1967), he played at the left-end, split-end and punter positions in the National Football League with the Green Bay Packers. Born William Max McGee, he was raised in Texas where he attended White Oak High School and played collegiate football at Tulane University. Selected by the Packers during the 5th round of the 1954 NFL Draft, he appeared in 148 regular season games, compiling 345 receptions for 6,346 yards with 50 touchdowns; he achieved Pro-Bowl honors in 1961. His career was interrupted while he served as a pilot in the US Air Force. He was an offensive contributor to two consecutive Green Bay NFL Title teams (1961 and 1962), but most likely will be remembered for scoring the first touchdown in Super Bowl competition on January 15th, 1967. McGee, who stayed out all of the previous night was pressed into action when star receiver Boyd Dowler sustained an injury during the first quarter of the contest. He totaled 7 receptions for 138 yards with 2 touchdowns as the Packers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 35 to 10 in the first Super Bowl. He experienced a second Super Bowl title the following year, as Green Bay defeated the Oakland Raiders 33 to 14 on January 14th, 1968. After retiring from football, he became a partner in the Chi-Chi's Mexican Restaurant chain and served as a radio broadcaster for Packers' games from 1979 until 1998. He was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame in 1975. He died after falling off his roof at home while trying to sweep away leaves.
