GRACE JEFFREY was born the daughter of ARCHIBALD B. (1819-1892) and ELLEN "ELLA" J. (nee HENDERSON) JEFFREY (1821-1881) in Madison County, Ohio, on April 12, 1863. She came to Michigan with her parents in 1866 and remained a resident of Clinton County for the rest of her life.

At age 30, GRACE married EDWARD A ACRE on August 10, 1893 in St. Johns and they made their home in Elsie, a village within the township of Duplain in the palm part of Michigan's glove-like shape. The couple had five children: ELLA FERN (born July 1894), ORIN R. (born October 1895), IVAH VERNE (born September 1897), ELMA MURIEL (born September 1899) and WARD (born 1904). All data in the previous sentence comes from the 1900 Census. Five months before GRACE's death, the family moved to Eureka.

As the result of a stroke, GRACE entered St. Lawrence Hospital in Lansing, where she remained in critical condition for ten days before her death on Thursday, June 10, 1926. Other than her husband, GRACE's immediate survivors were her two sons – ORIN of Elsie and WARD of Lansing – plus two daughters, ELLA of Lansing and ELMA MURIEL (who eventually went by her middle name) of Mt. Clemons. The couple's other daughter, IVAH, had died during the 1918 Spanish Flu epidemic.

GRACE's funeral services were conducted by the Rev. L. A. Fisher at the Disciple Church in Duplain at three o'clock "last Sunday" (according to the June 17, 1926 edition of the Clinton County Republican newspaper – the source of most of the above information; see attached obituary).
