ORIN R. ACRE (whose first name is, in some places, misspelled ORRIN), was born October 21, 1895 in the village of Elsie, which is located within the township of Duplain in the "palm" of the glove shape which makes up the largest part of Michigan. His parents, Edward and Grace Acre, had several other children: Ella (1894-1939), Ivah (1897-1918), Elma Muriel (born 1899) and Ward (born 1904). A lifelong Duplain resident (except for a brief stay in Crawford, MI in 1917), 21 year old Orin married 18 year old Ruth Agnes Shellenbarger in Lansing on July 1, 1917. Her parents were Willis Shellenbarger and Lucy Richardson. Orin, a farmer, was a member of the Duplain Church of Christ.

in 1967 Orin and Ruth celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in the Duplain Church where they renewed their wedding wows. The photo of the cpoup0le on this page was taken at that time. In attendance were their daughters, (Ruby) Mrs. Keith Kimball and (Ivah) Mrs. Robert Risley of St. Johns and (Elizabeth) Mrs. Dale Levey of Elsie -- along with their sons Lyle Acre of Ovid plus Paul Acre, Leon Acre and Sydney Acre of Elsie. Orin and Ruth had lived in Elsie all 50 years. At the time they had 25 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Following the 2:30 PM ceremeony an open house was held at the American Legion Hall.

After a three week illness, Orin died in Owosso Memorial Hospital at the age of 81 on December 12, 1976. His body was at rest in his home at 4901 Upton Road in Elsie until 9:30 AM before the funeral. His services took place in the Duplain Church of Christ on "Thursday" (according to his obituary in the December 22, 1976 issue of the Clinton County News). The Rev. Justin Shepard officiated and burial was in Elsie's Riverside Cemetery, where so many other Acres are also interred.

Orin was survived by his wife, four sons (Paul and Sidney of Elsie and Lyle and Leon of Ovid), three daughters (their married names: Elisabeth Levey of Elsie, Ruby Kimball of St. Johns and Ivah Risley of Ovid) and his sister Muriel of Dearborn Heights (who preferred using her middle name as her first). There were also the 25 grandchildren and now ten great grandchildren. Orin's daughter Ivah was named after her aunt and Orin's sister Ivah, who had died at age 21 on Christmas Day, 1918 during the flu epidemic.
