Alma Luceil Batton, 97, of Corsicana departed this life Monday, Aug. 27, 2007, in Corsicana.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Griffin-Roughton Chapel with George Procter-Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Blooming Grove.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons.

Mrs. Batton was born Nov. 15, 1909, in Blooming Grove to John Albert King and Tabitha A. Johnson King. She graduated from Sam Houston State University with a masters degree and taught many years in the area: Cryer Creek, Rural Shade, Italy, Palmer, Ferris, Jackson High, and Corsicana. Upon her retirement from public schools, she taught at St. Johns in Ennis. She was a member of Central Methodist Church for many years. For the past three years she was a resident of Heritage Oaks, where she was lovingly cared for by the staff, especially Frank.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eston Batton, and her parents.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Jane Batton of Corsicana; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Tommy Cartwright of Gun Barrel City and Nancy and Phil Hawk of Frisco; grandchildren, Lisa Batton, Jonathan Batton, Shawna and Greg Ward, Tabatha and Jeff Tuthill, Michael and Wynne Hawk; great-grandchildren, Nicole Batton, Jilleighann and Jordan Ward, Sierra, Jackson, Trace and Tripp Tuthill, and Zoe Hawk.
