History taken from Maxwell, Iowa, centennial book 1883-1983, Walsworth publishing, Marceline, MO, USA, pages 49 and 50. "Urias S. and Lydia Meyers Beal – Urias S. Beal was born April 10, 1862 near Meyersdale, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Solomon and Catherine Hostetler Beal and the twelfth child in a family of fourteen children. His father died in 1878, and in 1879 his mother and youngest sister died from the effects of smallpox. He and his sister Jane went to Freeport, Illinois to live with an older sister Ellen. Just before his twentieth birthday he came to Iowa to the end of the railroad which was Collins. He walked south of Collins to a farm now owned by Mrs. George Kimberley and got a job as a farm hand.
Within a year or so, two brothers came to Iowa. William located two miles northwest of Farrar and Herman located six miles northeast of Colo.
In August 1883 Urias married Lydia Meyers of Maxwell, daughter of Samuel and Barbara Klingaman Meyers. They started farming on a farm near Farrar, later moving to Nevada, Fernald and back to Maxwell. In 1914 they retired to a new house they built in Maxwell, where they lived until their death. Lydia died in August 1925 and Urias on August 19, 1928. They were members of the Brethren Church. To this union were born five children, Roy, Carrie, Ray, Amy Mae and Hattie Pet Marie.
Roy Beal was born April 23, 1886 and died in 1948. He married Bertha White on June 30, 1909. Their children are James Beal of Maxwell, Dorothy Beal Talbert of California, Robert Beal of Boone, Iowa, Blanch Beal Buckingham, Howard Beal, Verlynn Beal of Adel, Iowa, and Marilyn Beal Reynolds of Berwick, Iowa. Blanche and Howard are deceased.
Carrie "Sis" Beal was born October 8, 1887 and died April 2, 1945. She married William Hostetler on February 16, 1910. Their children are Ray Hostetler of Colo, Iowa and Marjorie Hostetler Baker, deceased.
Ray Beal was born November 27, 1888 and died in 1944. He married Mildred Flora and they had one son, Ray Beal, Jr. of Maxwell. Ray then married Eva Bloomfield and their children are Pauline Beal Crain of Nevada, Iowa, Raymond Fay Beal, deceased, and Harvey Beal of Nevada.
Amy Mae Beal was born January 28, 1894. She died in 1979. Mae married Bert Link, deceased, on July 16, 1913 and they had one son Billie Dwight Link of Leon, Iowa.
Hattie Pet Marie Beal was born May 26, 1896. She married Ray Pinck, deceased, and they had one son Emerson Pinck of Maxwell. Pet Married Richard Zook Brown, now deceased, on August 17, 1921. They had one daughter Ila Marie Brown Barrett of Maxwell. Pet still lives in Maxwell where she has lived her entire life.
Of 16 grandchildren twelve are still living. Four live in Maxwell and vicinity. Of the 36 great grandchildren, John Beal, Sanky Pinck and Richard Barrett live in or near Maxwell"


Uriah S. was the son of Solomon and Catherine Hostetler Beal. Uriah married Lydia J. Meyers and they had the following children: Roy Charles, Carrie (Sis), Raymond Earl, Amy Mae and Hattie (Pet) Marie.

NEVADA JOURNAL, Nevada, Iowa, August 22, (1928). "PIONEER FARMER CALLED BY DEATH. – Special to the Journal. Maxwell, Aug. 22 – U. S. Beal, 66, pioneer retired farmer of this community died at his home northeast of Maxwell Sunday night at 10:30 o'clock, after an illness of a couple of days. He leaves besides his wife two sons, Roy and Ray of near Maxwell and three daughters: Mrs. Wm. Hostetler of Colo; Mrs. Bert Link of near Collins and Mrs. R. Z. Brown of this place. The rites will be held at the Brethren church, four miles south of Maxwell and interment will be made in the family lot in the Brethren churchyard near by."
