Major League Baseball Player. Born in Sheffield, Ohio, he was pitcher for six seasons with the Boston Red Caps (1879), Worcestor Ruby Legs 1880 to 1882, Providence Grays (1883) and Cincinnati Red Stockings (1886). He is most noted for being baseball's first regular left-handed pitcher and for pitching the first perfect game in baseball, a 1-0 victory over the National League Cleveland Blues on June 12, 1880. He ended his career with 75 wins, 100 lost, 552 strikeouts and a 3.06 earned run average.
