James Wesley Johnson was born to David J. Johnson & Mary Ann Macon. When he was 8 years old he drove some 3,000 head of cattle from Coryell County Texas to Dodge City Kansas. He moved to Brady McCulloch County Tx in 1876 and was a cowboy in the open range days; then later ranching on the Pecos and finally settling in San Angelo , Tom Green County Texas where he purchased 1,400 acres and operated the Elk Horn Wagon Yard for over 25 years, He stuck to his horse and buggy even after automobiles came about, truly an old pioneer. he married Annie Dee Houghton of Pond Springs, Williamson County Texas. James W. Johnson, a True Texas Pioneer Cowboy.
