Mary Ann Macon was a daughter of Pleasant Macon and Nancy Grey Stephens. She was born in Upson County Georgia. She came from a wealthy family and just prior to her moving to Texas, she inherited from her father, Pleasant Macon; two slaves, a woman & her infant son. The woman died and the Johnson family kept the little boy whose name was Coaley. They raised them in their home.

She was united in marriage to David J. Johnson , on Feb 6, 1842 in Macon County Georgia. ( Macon County Marriage Book #1, page 83). (Certified copy on file). Marriage performed by J.P. Cox.

For a time, it is known that Mary Ann lived in Hembrie, Crockett County , Texas with her son James W. Johnson and his wife Annie Dee Houghton Johnson.

Mary is buried in Live Oak Cemetery next to her son, Anderson S. Johnson. The caretaker at Live Oak Cemetery used a divining rod and determined that there are two more adult, unmarked graves in the Johnson Plot. Marys' is unmarked. It is speculation, but entirely possible that David J Johnson is one of the unknown adults buried here. The Johnson plots were purchased by D.J. Johnson.

the children from this marriage were Willis Monroe Johnson, Nathaniel Barney Johnson, David Johnson, George C. Johnson, Nancy Ann Johnson, Louisa Ambler Johnson, William Thomas Johnson, Anderson Stephens Johnson, Ellen Grey Johnson, Pleasant Stephens Johnson, and Charles A. Johnson.
