MRS. D. I. GARRETT DIES IN BASTROP; RITES SATURDAY
Mrs. Lessie Madison Garrett, widow of Fourth District Judge David I. Garrett, Sr., died last Thursday in Bastrop following a long illness. She was 72. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Saturday at the First Methodist Church of Monroe with Drs. Carl Leug, H. L. John and Peyton Slane officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery under direction of Spears Funeral Home of Monroe. The body will be placed in the church one hour before time for service.

Mrs. Garrett was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. H. Flood Madison of Bastrop, pioneer Morehouse Parish attorney. She attended Bastrop public schools and Newcomb College in New Orleans, where she was graduated.

She taught in the public schools in Lake Charles and the Monroe City school systems. She married her late husband on August 10, 1922. Mrs. Garrett was a member of the Alpha Omega Pi sorority in Newcomb, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Colonial Dames and the First Methodist Church of Monroe.

Mrs. Garrett is survived by her two sons:
David I. Garrett, Jr. of Monroe
Dr. Henry Flood Madison Garrett of Bastrop
Two brothers:
H. Flood Madison, Jr. of Monroe
H. Webb Madison of Bastrop
One sister:
Mrs. Roy Swift of Lexington, Kentucky
Four grandchildren
