Grandma had what they called lazy eye and if you look at her photo closely, you will see it. She wore glasses. It is passed down through the line except it skips over a generation or two usually before it shows up in a family member. Her daughter, my mother, had it and had eye surgery but she always wore glasses. Then it skipped two generations and my brothers grandaughter had it and she was treated for it also.

MRS. EPSIE K. MATTHEWS

Funeral service for Mrs. Epsie K Matthews, 90, who died Friday night at North Plains Hospital following a lengthy illness, will be 1 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist church.

The Rev. Leo McMahan, pastor of the Central Baptist Church, will officiate.

Graveside rites will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday in the Lakeview Cemetery in Floydada by Ed Brown and Sons Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Matthews, born in Stewart County, Ga. had been a resident of Borger since 1937. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors are a son, W. T. Matthews of Hillsboro; and four daughters, Mrs. Ruby Stone, and Mrs. W. R. Coggin, both of Borger, Mrs. J. B. Massingill of Phillips, and Mrs. M. E. Green of Floydada; 19 grandchildren, 44 great-great children and one great-great grandchild.

She had Lazy eye and she passed it along to my mother, Laura Winnifred and she had surgery as a child to correct it. My mom always wore glasess. The eye condition usually skips a generation or two and one of her great grandchildren had it also. It was diagnosed early and she was wearing glasses at an early age. You can see the condition in the picture that I have posted here.
