Mary Brucken, 86, of Holton, died Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at the Holton Community Hospital. She was born December 24, 1920 at Kelly, the daughter of Fred and Mary Wessel Hermesch. Mary was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton, the Altar Society and Mary Ann Circle at the church, and she helped with funeral dinners there for many years. She was also a member of the East Grant Club, Progressive Study Club, Pleasant Valley Neighbors and the Widowed Friends, all in Holton. She married Henry "Hank" Brucken February 17, 1943 at Kelly. He died February 3, 1995. She was also preceded in death by a son, Donald Brucken, who died December 22, 2000, six brothers, Albert, Frank, Kenneth, Edwin, Raymond and Lambert Hermesch; and five sisters, Agnes Rempe, Anna Brokamp, Rita Pardue, Sister Amanda Hermesch, and Lucy Hermesch, who died as a child. Survivors include four daughters, Doris Wright, Fresno, California, Delores Hughes, Lawrence, Joyce Sharp, Tecumseh, and Cindy Meyer, Mayetta; three brothers, Ben Hermesch and Fred "Junior" Hermesch, both of Seneca, and Lawrence Hermesch, Anamosa, Iowa; one sister, Theresa Winkler, Seneca; twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 10th at St. Dominic Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery at Holton. Mary will lie in state Friday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton where a Parish Rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m., followed by visitation.
