Mattie Carlisle Cunningham

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Jarrell for Mattie Carlisle Cunningham, 87, who died Friday at the Sweetbriar Nursing Home in Georgetown after an extended illness.

Young Funeral Home of Florence directed the final services with burial at Corn Hill Cemetery near Jarrell. Dr. Max Johnson officiated.

Cunningham, a resident of Jarrell, was born August 3, 1893, at Davidston, Alabama, the daughter of James Henry Milam and Elizabeth Yates. She married Arthur Carlisle in 1909 and Roscoe Cunningham in 1970. She had four children—a daughter and three sons—only one of which survives, Harrell Carlisle of Jarrell.

Her first husband died in 1959 and her second husband in 1970.

She came to Texas in 1899 and lived most of her life in Central Texas. She had been at the Sweetbriar Nursing Home since 1979 and belonged to the Baptist Church in Jarrell. She worked as an LVN in nursing homes and privately.

Pallbearers were James H. Jones, Lester Bridges, W. E. Proctor, James Blackwell, Clarence Castleberry and Carl Langenegger. [From a newspaper clipping from an unnamed and undated paper.]
