LUTHER ADOLPH ARMSTRONG, SR., 84, died Jan 8, 2007 peacefully after a long illness with his family at his side. Mr. Armstrong served as a Naval Chief Petty Officer in World War II. He graduated from Tulane University as a mechanical engineer and attended graduate school at Kansas State University. He was employed by Texaco for 30 years and after retirement founded American Lubricating Co., a specialty lubricant manufacturing and packaging company in Memphis. While at Tulane he met Providence Pusateri, his devoted wife of 59 years. Together they made a life in Memphis for over 40 years. His passions were his family, sports and the outdoors. He was an active supporter of St. Paul Catholic Church and Bishop Byrne High School. He is survived by his wife, Providence; his sons, Luther Jr. "Chip" and wife, Meredith, Guy and wife, Cathy, Mike and wife, Linda, Drew and wife, Jayme; his daughters, Sandy Rousseau and husband, Jean; and Jean McIvor and husband, Robert. He also leaves grandchildren, Brian and wife, Kelley, Neal, Luther III "Lou", Andrew, Will, Carrie, Casey, Matt, Stephen, Robyn, Silas, Peter, Mary Catherine, and Annie; and great-grandson, Jacob. Visitation will be at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be said on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church and burial will follow in All Saints Catholic Cemetery on Holmes Road. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mother Cabrini House at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1425 E. Shelby Dr. Memphis, TN 38116, or a local charity of your choice.
