12/6/2006: Marjorie B. Bier, age 80, of Jacksonville passed away Monday, December 4, 2006. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, John W. Bier, two sons, James Bier (Pam) of Norcross, GA and Douglas Bier (Betsy) of Macon, GA. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bier was born September 14, 1926 in Indiana, PA to A.O. Buntin and Marjorie Buntin. She was raised in Atlanta, GA and attended E. Rivers Elementary and North Fulton High School. She also attended Sullins College in Bristol, VA. She moved to Jacksonville in 1947. She supported her husband in helping establish Lakewood Presbyterian Church in their home on Duke Road in 1951- 52. Mrs. Bier was very active in Jacksonville, serving as past president of the Dupont High School PTA; Jacksonville Cotillion and the Ladies Golf Association of San Jose Country Club. She was a member of the DAR. She was known as Mimi to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed golf, bridge, woodworking and history. She learned to play golf at an early age at the Capital City Club in Atlanta and she bestowed that love by teaching her children and grandchildren the game. Her maternal family originally came to Virginia in the 1630's and she relished in telling stories about her family and their history. A private family burial will be held in Oaklawn Cemetery followed by a memorial service at Lakewood Presbyterian Church. The memorial service, celebrating her life, will be at 11 o'clock a.m. on Friday, December 8, 2006 and officiated by the Rev. Terry Lucarelli. [Jacksonvile Florida Time Union]
