Charles Earl "Charlie" Lohide, 76, of 2257 State Road 56, Aberdeen, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2006, at Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay.
He was born Sept. 24, 1930, in Switzerland County, the son of Lawrence K. and Minnie P. Sanders Lohide. He was raised near Aberdeen. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He was a molding press operator for Western Electric (AT&T) in Indianapolis, retiring in 1985 after 30 years of service. A farmer at heart, he traveled from Indianapolis on weekends and continued to farm the family farm. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, camping and Purdue University. He was a member of Cumberland Lodge No. 726 F & AM, and was the lodge's DeMolay Chapter Dad; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis; and Cumberland Order of Eastern Star No. 515. He received the DeMolay Cross of Honor in 1978. He attended New Liberty Baptist Church in East Enterprise.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Martin Lohide, whom he married July 23, 1955; one son, Steve Lohide of Mesa, Ariz.; one daughter, Kim Bennis of Emden, Ill; four grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Louise Gayle, on March 23, 2003; and one brother, Karl F. Lohide on Oct. 24, 2004.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial will be in Littlefield Cemetery in Aberdeen. The honor guard of Vevay American Legion Post 185 and Vevay VFW Post 5396 will conduct military rites at the cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Cumberland Lodge No. 726 F & AM will conduct services at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
