A civil War veteran with a new headstone issued by the VA and set by the Sons of the Union Veterans. He came to Oregon in 1853 on a wagon train from Missouri and he had his own farm for a time but also worked for John White on his farm in the Cottage Grove (Hebron) area.

He married 1st Sarah Alderman in Scioto, Ohio.
He married 2nd Mary AnnPyburn in Umpqua, Oregon.

"GRUBBS, John O. - b. 1822, Champaign Co., Ohio; DLC No. 646, Douglas Co., Ore. On the way west he drove for Daniel White (see roster). First wife, Sarah Ann, whom Grubbs m. 14 March 1844 in Sciota Co., Ohio, stayed in Mid-West and divorced him. He m. (2) Mary Ann Matte Pyburn, 9 Sept. 1855, Douglas Co., Ore. He served in Co. "F" lst Inf. 12-15-1864 to 6-19-1866; d. 15 Sept. 1893, Douglas Co., Ore."
