He had ten children, Oscar, Niecie, Christine, Kyle, Howard, Connie, Baby Ruth, Mabel, Ray and Reuel. He had 17 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. All the family called him "Papa Chenault". He passed away from cancer at the age of 72.
