Keith B. Thurston

May 7, 1932 — March 2, 2017


Keith B. Thurston, 84, of Shelbyville passed away Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour. Born May 7, 1932, in Bartholomew County, he was the son of Doyle and Dorothy (Courtner) Thurston. He married Marilyn A. Massingale on April 20, 1952. They were married 63 years with Marilyn preceding Keith in death on June 3, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his parents and sister, Phyllis A. Bowman.


Mr. Thurston graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1951. He worked at the Shelby County R.E.M.C. beginning as a meter reader until retiring as the General Manager of the utility in 1994. Keith enjoyed any and all time he was able to spend with his grandchildren. He valued a strong work ethic and personal integrity, having worked to help support his family since age 12. Keith was a member of the First Christian Church, Rotary Club of Shelbyville, and Blue River Elks Lodge. He was also active in the Chamber of Commerce and a contributing member of the Shelby County Republican Party.
