Janell O. Bentsen was born April 23, 1945 at Hettinger to Walter and Clara (Amdahl) Bentsen. She was baptized in the Lutheran Faith on July 22, 1945 and entered school at Argonne School #2 in Sept. of 1951. The family later moved to a farm southeast of Hettinger and she became a student in Hettinger Public Schools. She was confirmed at Hettinger Lutheran Church in June of 1960 and completed her education, graduating with the Hettinger High School class of 1963. She was married to Gary L. Strand on Oct. 5, 1963 at Hettinger. They began their life together farming in the north Hettinger area, later moving to Hettinger where they raised their family of four children. Janell worked at Hillcrest Care Center in housekeeping, and in the bakery and cafe of Halverson's Super Value store. She also worked as a cook at the Senior Citizens Center and a waitress and cook in the restaurant at Mirror Lake Lanes. Prior to being diagnosed with cancer, she returned to Hillcrest and worked in the kitchen. She also helped her family with the operation of Strand Tax Service, Hettinger. Janell particularly loved Halloween and made costumes for family and friends. At one time she sewed all the costumes for the characters of the "Wizard of Oz". She was a member of Hettinger Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Preceding her in death were her husband Gary and her parents. Surviving are her daughters; Vronna (Dan) Mollman of Hettinger, Gina Strand, Idaho Falls, ID, sons; Jon (Tammi) Strand of Minneapolis, MN and Lee (Sheena) Strand. Lincoln, ND, 10 grandchldren; Desiree and Amanda Mollman, Elizabeth Daniels, Jonathan and Joshua Molbert, ShiAnna Strand, Andrew Carlson, Mercedes, Vanessa and Carter Strand, one great grandchild; Abrya Molbert, brothers; Burnell Bentsen, Bakersfield, CA, Arlan Bentsen, Hettinger, sisters; Joann Barth, Atwater, CA and June Whittet, Scranton, ND.

Janell succumbed to cancer on Thursday, May 11th at West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger.

Interment will be in the Hettinger Cemetery.
